Because we live in a world where things like race and gender exist and greatly impact material outcomes, every candidate is an “identity politics” candidate whether they’re aware of it or not.

As much as I like Bernie, he has been wrong about things (like FOSTA/SESTA), and the things he’s wrong about are a direct result of the blind spots he has because of who he is. Pretending there’s some pure plane where politics can be fully abstracted from who we are as human beings is perilously inaccurate, and frankly it’s what led to the “Bernie Bro” narrative in the first place. We need to be smarter this time.
